So I am a little late sharing about the Mississippi Blues half marathon! Sorry, but life happened and I had to pick up my pace and then catch my breath!
Never the less, I have to tell you about the Blues! The day started out foggy and humid and the temperature was rising! So that meant running a very hilly course with heat and humidity. Not a good combination for anyone, but especially me! When it is hot and humid I tank!
The forecast called for a possibility of rain; I was hoping but it did not happen! Instead the sun came out full force! I am used to my shaded trail, not full sun! Winter was gone and it was suddenly Spring!
I ran with two friends and we started out keeping our pace nice and steady only to realize that we needed a bathroom break at mile two! Not wanting to use port a potties we decide to stop at a coffee shop with one bathroom! Well it turned into a six-minute break, but we pressed on!
The Blues is a tough course and my goal was to finish not gain a PR, but I had made the mistake of driving the course a couple of days before the race and that made things harder because I knew what was coming. Knowing the course did not help (preparing through training helps!) I will not do that again! I am sure someone will disagree, but running has taught me a few things such as, I do not need to know the course or every pot hole in it! I just need to know the direction that I am going and accept that I can only see so far ahead. So I need to run the course as it comes to me and realize that I can only take the next step! Very much like life!
Yes, I did finish the race in 2:55 and my hubby gained a PR! He finished in 1:50, two minutes faster than his St. Jude half and this was a much tougher course!
